Denver Metro Mastectomy Support Group
Welcome! I'm Faith Koltak, the founder of Denver Metro Area Mastectomy Support Group.
After a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy and DIEP flap reconstruction in November 2023, I was surprised to find that there are no support groups in the Denver metro area specific to women who have had mastectomies. There are plenty of breast cancer support groups, but not all who have breast cancer have mastectomies, and not all who have mastectomies have breast cancer. I didn't feel that it was appropriate for me to be in those spaces.
It also didn't feel appropriate that the only place women have to talk about the challenges related specifically to mastectomies - the emotions, the physical changes, the questions about sexuality or body image or additional surgeries - all of the things that make up the unique journey of a mastectomy, was in the same room in which others may be processing harsher prognoses, recurrences of cancer, etc.

While there are a number of online communities filled with amazing women, I believe in the benefit of human connection and interaction. Sometimes we need to be physically witnessed by other people who understand what we're going through.
Welcome! 💗
Is this group for you?

Are you preparing for a mastectomy and want to know what to expect, or want to talk about your fears with women who have likely experienced those same fears and, thus, can validate you and, perhaps, alleviate some of your anxiety? Welcome!

Was your mastectomy prophylactic? Welcome!

Was your mastectomy the result of a cancer diagnosis? Welcome!

Was your mastectomy the result of the diagnosis of a breast disease (PASH, etc.)? Welcome!
